a recent painting of protea flowers on blue

Blue has always been my favorite color. Blue looks terrible on me, I never decorate in blues  but when I paint, it is difficult for me to avoid a little blue. Particularly aqua, teal and turquoise. Below are five of my paintings using blue.

Painting of the Day - "Into the Light" by Glen Josselsohn

Discovered this South African artist, Glen Josselsohn, and loved the Jackson Pollack and Joan Miro influence.

Into the Light, Glen Josselsohn

My inspiration was my artist mother, Gail Josselsohn, who has mentored me my whole life. Although I have varied interests, the works of PicassoJackson PollockMiro and all African ethnic tribal art has motivated me to use earthy tones and striking colours in my art.

I hope to influence and inspire my children as this artist was by his mother.

I love artist Kelly Reemtsen's mid-century modern forms

Artist Kelly Reemtsen’s body of work, in addition to the modernist subject matter, is her use of white paint. The Caldwell Snyder Gallery showcases her online exhibition, and notes that, ” Her use of white space serves to isolate the objects she renders, as if to revere these past art forms she so adores.”

I have to say her work reminds me of another favorite - Wayne Thiebaud. Thiebaud use white is a similar manner (below).

The kids and me recently went to the National Gallery of Art (east wing) in DC. We took a photo of Thiebaud's originals.

I am sure I will post on Reemtsen's work again. You need to see her iconic paintings of women with tools. She amazes me.

Gold necklace gets a makeover

A few years ago attended a white elephant gift exchange. After this necklace (top left) was bounced around several times, I became the proud owner. I thought it was sort of cool and saw it's potential right away. I wore it a few times but the necklace needed more.  After playing around with a few different ideas. This is the end result and I wear it quite a bit.
